You Can’t Make This Stuff Up!

Conway SC- Recently, Ken Taylor of RivertownRadio.com wrote a parody piece on this site in response to the proposed smoking ban being considered by the Conway City Council. In it he stated—tongue in cheek, or so he thought—that the city was banning Coke products because they are bad for you. It was meant to be a way of demonstrating how just about any governmental overreach could be justified in the name of “it’s good for us”.

I guess the ConwayJournal.com is more widely read

than we thought, even in the mayor’s office of New York City. That’s right! Mayor Bloomburg has declared war on the Big Gulp! According to The New York Times, “Bloomberg proposes to “ban the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks,” So, by March 2013, people will not be able to buy any container of sweetened drink — anything from energy drinks to pre-sweetened iced teas in a size larger than 16 fluid ounces, according to the Times.

Well shut my mouth and call us Nostradumass, we are on the edge of the progressive nanny state evolution and didn’t even know it. Bloomburg, who is a Republican by the way, is waging his latest “it’s bad for you campaign” as a follow-up to his wars on smoking, salt, alcohol and trans-fat.

Hmmm, if I read the tea leaves right, that means if we don’t nip this nanny-ism in the bud, we will see popcorn, pretzels, salted peanuts, beer, Jack Daniels and Bojangles outlawed in Conway SC.

What do you do that’s bad for you that they can make you an outlaw for? Think about it.
